Financial Support

As a part of the commitments to foster diversity and inclusion and to support early-career members of the ISMIR community, the ISMIR Society, Widening Inclusion in MIR (WIMIR), and the local organizers offer several financial support opportunities for those who wish to attend ISMIR 2024, and those who may need extra support in order to be able to do this.

Grant Categories

This year, waivers and reimbursements will be offered under the following grant categories:

Student Grants

Student Grants are available for students. The grants include registration fee waivers and accommodation grants, pending on the availability of funds, and are awarded based on different aspects including conference participation, the degree of financial need, the applicant’s newness to ISMIR, and the applicant’s geographical region.

Widening Inclusion in MIR (WIMIR) Diversity & Inclusion Grants

WIMIR and DEI Grants are available for women, minorities, and researchers from under-represented groups/ regions in MIR. Applicants do NOT need to be students to apply for the grants, though priority will be given to first or supporting authors of accepted papers. The grants include registration fee waivers and accommodation grants.

Childcare Grants

Childcare grants are available as well; please indicate your requirements for childcare in the application. 

Eligibility

Grants are awarded based on financial need, student and Diversity & Inclusion eligibility, and availability of funds. For registration waiver grants, the following funding categories will be prioritized, though anyone may apply:

  • Student: Applicants enrolled in a degree-granting academic program in the 2023-2024 and/or 2024-2025 academic year(s)
  • Minorities in MIR: Applicants identifying as Black, African, African-American, or an ethnic/racial minority (of the applicant’s region)
  • Applicant's professional affiliation is in a low- or middle-income country: list.
  • Queer in MIR: Applicants identifying as LGBTQIA+
  • Unaffiliated researcher: Applicants who currently have no professional affiliation that will cover the conference registration fee
  • Women in MIR: Applicants identifying as a woman or other gender minority
  • Caregiver: Applicants seek financial support to cover childcare costs so that they may attend the conference

Procedure

Grant applications for ISMIR 2024 will open on June 28, 2024.

The deadline for grant applications is July 17, 2024.

Grant notifications will be announced no later than August 10, 2024 (in time for the ISMIR 2024 early bird registration deadline).

We request grant applicants to wait until the notification deadline before registering for the conference.

You will be considered for all the grants that you qualify for, based on the information you provide in the application. All grant applications shall be processed with utmost confidentiality and any information provided on the application shall only be used for assessment of grant eligibility and not for any other purpose. The information will not be shared beyond the members of the ISMIR 2024 grants committee.
